BASKETBALL
Basketball is a team sport that is played between two games of five players each during four controls or rooms of ten or twelve minutes each. The team's objective is to score points by introducing one ball per basket.
Some curious facts about this game are:
- It was invented in 1891 by James Naismith Massachusetts, United States.
- James Naismith was inspired by a childhood game called “duck on a rock” which consisted of trying to reach an object placed on a rock by throwing a stone at it.
- At first this sport was played with a soccer ball, until finally it was replaced by the ball that we know today. That change occurred in 1929.
- Basketball was a sport only practiced by men due to the regulations that were approved, but that changed in 1892 when some rules were modified to include women and thus women's basketball was officially born.
- The board that was placed behind the basket aims to keep the ball from going towards the public as often.
- The three-point (triple) line was tested in the United States in 1933. However, it would not be adopted by the American Basketball Association until 1968, reaching the NBA in the 1979-80 season.
- The first shirts were cotton. Currently they are made of synthetic material.
